The Toxin Bucket

How full is your bucket?

The Toxin Bucket Theory says that throughout our lives we are exposed to numerous sources of toxins- a moldy home, parasite exposures, chemicals in our water, food, cleaning supplies and personal care products, toxic people and situations, a Lyme infection from a biting insect, and more. Based on the level of these exposures we begin to develop unexplained symptoms, inflammation, chronic infections, and even mental health disorders. The more toxins we are exposed to, the bucket begins to rise, overflow, and the more health issues we face.

How often do we hear that our symptoms are just a result of getting older? Or on the other hand we are told that we are too young to be having health issues. Consider the perspective that it’s not just a result of aging, it’s not all in your head, and you may not have to live a life controlled by symptoms.

It all clicked for me when I was taught this model by a Functional Medicine doctor: being someone who loves metaphors for understanding things. It all made sense as to why my health did not seem to crash overnight. It happened slowly throughout my life as exposures happened. A tick bite at 5 years old, parasites slowly making their way into my body through the food we eat and animals around us, the heavy metals and chemicals in our drinking water and food, repeated mold exposures throughout my life, and more.

But here comes the good part: we can begin to slowly decrease our toxin bucket to decrease inflammation, symptoms, and chronic health issues. Through DETOX and working with someone you trust who goes after these ROOT CAUSES (shown on the second slide) we can begin to regain our life back! If your practitioner or doctor isn’t talking about drainage supplements, filtering your water, testing your home for mold, and going after biofilms in the gut- find a different practitioner!

To dive deeper into HOW, WHAT, and WHERE, all these toxins are coming from I recommend the book “The Rain Barrel Effect” by Dr. Stephan Cabral.
